Record TV in Brazil chooses Avid Graphics for Augmented Reality and Virtual Set
São Paulo, BR, April 1st, 2020 – As part of a selection process that began in the beginning of 2019, Record TV in Brazil ultimately chose CIS Group and Avid to equip two of their largest augmented reality and virtual set studios with Avid’s Broadcast Graphics platform, including Maestro and HDVG engines. The system provides Record TV with the ability to further engage their audience by taking advantage of seamless integration with Epic’s Unreal Engine in order to deliver breaking news in an eye-catching, real-time way. Epic’s Unreal Engine is considered the standard in high-end rendering platforms for games, and the partnership between Avid and Epic allows those in the News field to benefit from the photo realistic rendering that Unreal delivers in an augmented reality scenario.
As a complete, end-to-end studio solution, the Avid Maestro Graphics platform allows Record TV to continue using their current design tools, like Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere, to create engaging virtual studio backgrounds. Additionally, Avid Maestro integrates with news production solutions, such as ENPS, to standardize workflows from the creation of graphics through playout. Although the on-site deployment was concluded in early 2020, the operational efficiencies gained from the system were noticed immediately when it went on-air in March of this year.
“By incorporating Unreal Engine into their studio workflow, Record TV enriched their graphics with dynamic shadow options, reflections, lighting and more to the already powerful graphic capabilities of Maestro | Virtual Set. The result is stunning realism, establishing a true differentiator for news and sports productions in Brazil,” says Felipe Andrade, CIS Group Director of Sales in Brazil.
“Record TV has been using virtual sets for a long time. We have gained tremendous experience with this technology, in addition to reducing the overall cost of producing these scenarios. As part of this project, we wanted a solution that would enable us to continue differentiating ourselves in this area that is associated with quality, performance, productivity and high technology. Working with Maestro and Unreal puts us at the highest level when it comes to production of VS and AR.”, says Jose Marcelo Amaral, Record TV Director of Operations and Engineering.
